Please take a look at the mechanism that the IRS has created to help people experiencing homelessness receive their economic income payments. 

Most eligible U.S. taxpayers will automatically receive their Economic Impact Payments including:

  • Individuals who filed a federal income tax for 2018 or 2019
  • Those receiving Social Security retirement, disability (SSDI), survivor benefits
  • Supplemental Security Income (SSI) recipients
  • Recipients of Veterans Affairs Compensation and Pension (C&P) benefits
  • Individuals who receive Railroad Retirement (RRB) benefits
 
 
 
Good Public Policy during COVID-19
 
April 21 – The Alameda City Council adopted an urgency ordinance that freezes rent increases for residential rent controlled units in Alameda (generally, multi-family units built before 1995). For more information, click here
 
April 7th – Hayward City Council voted to expand COVID-19 eviction protection to homeowners following foreclosure. For more information, click here.  
 
March 31st – Alameda County Board of Supervisors amended its previous eviction moratorium ordinance to apply to the entirety of the county. This emergency ordinance now suspends evictions in both the incorporated and unincorporated areas County for renters and homeowners who are experiencing loss of income, significant out-of-pocket medical expenses or childcare needs as a result of the County COVID-19 shelter mandate. This Ordinance is currently in effect and will remain in effect until April 23, 2020 unless extended by the Board. For more information, click here
 
March 27th – City of Fremont  passed eviction moratorium for for residential tenants. Read more here. 
 
March 27th, 2020 – City of Oakland passed moratorium on residential commercial evictions, rent increases, late fees during the COVID-19 pandemic. For more information, read the report here.
 
The City of Oakland also voted to follow The Center for Disease Control Interim Guidelines on Homelessness and COVID-19 to only clear encampment if individual housing units or alternative shelter is provided. Read the CDC guidelines here.
 
March 27 2020 – Governor Newsom declares statewide moratorium on evictions for renters impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic through May 31, 2020.  
 
March 25, 2020. City of Union City passed temporary ban on evictions for rental and commercial renters. 
 
March 24, 2020 – City of Hayward voted to enact an immediate 90 day-moratorium on residential evictions for failure to pay rent due to coronavirus and on no-fault evictions.
 
March 24th. 2020 – Alameda County Board of Supervisors unanimously passed an emergency ordinance suspending evictions in the Unincorporated County.
